FPGA Developer (Freelance – Remote – 6‑month contract)

We are looking for an FPGA Developer to join our team on a 6‑month freelance contract, working fully remote. The collaboration includes an initial one‑week onsite onboarding and training period in Barcelona to ensure proper integration with the team and the technical environment.

As an FPGA Developer, you will contribute to the FPGA development of a complex system that integrates advanced hardware, FPGA IPs, and an embedded software library. You will work within an international R&D environment, collaborating with teams across different countries and contributing to the technological evolution of the product and its ability to support next‑generation applications.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement FPGA modules in SystemVerilog, enhancing and extending existing product functionality.

  • Integrate internal and external IPs into the FPGA design, ensuring compatibility and performance.

  • Collaborate with architects and developers to ensure proper integration of the FPGA design within the overall system.

  • Perform simulation, functional verification, and static timing analysis (STA).

  • Debug and validate the design on real hardware using instrumentation and signal‑analysis tools.

  • Optimize FPGA designs for latency, synchronization, resource usage, and timing closure.

  • Document the design and participate in technical reviews.

Candidate Profile

Core experience

  • Strong and up‑to‑date knowledge of FPGA technology and digital design.

Minimum experience

At least 5 years of experience in digital electronics or FPGA development, including:

  • RTL programming in SystemVerilog.

  • Understanding of FPGA blocks, IP cores, and internal bus interconnections.

  • Integration of FPGA designs into broader hardware/software systems.

  • Simulation, functional verification, and timing analysis.

  • Real‑hardware validation and signal debugging.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Electrical or Computer Engineering with FPGA specialization.

  • Extensive hands‑on experience in FPGA development.

  • Strong command of SystemVerilog.

  • Practical experience in FPGA validation, simulation, and STA.

  • Familiarity with Xilinx devices and Vivado.

  • Solid understanding of digital circuit design and schematics.

  • Ability to multitask and solve complex problems across multiple projects.

Nice‑to‑have

  • Experience with QuestaSim and VHDL.

  • Knowledge of CI/CD and version control.

  • Familiarity with Agile Scrum.

  • Experience with test and measurement equipment, synchronization, and time‑critical applications.

  • Programming skills in C++, C#, or Python.

  • Strong communication skills, proactivity, and customer orientation.

  • Ability to mentor and collaborate effectively.

What we offer

  • 6‑month freelance contract.

  • 100% remote work, with an initial one‑week onsite onboarding in Barcelona.

  • Opportunity to contribute to an advanced R&D project with real‑world impact.

  • International, collaborative, and highly technical environment.

  • Participation in next‑generation technology development.
